how much is car insurance for a 16 year old boy if you add on to your parents insurance?

It really depends on the insurance company. Some companies will automatically put you as the principal driver for the highest risk vehicle which will make your premium ridiculous! However, some companies will put you as an occasional driver, and the premium would be surprisingly cheap. If your parents have full coverage on their vehicles than you'll probably look at a very high premium.

You can always get a quote with them, and they can offer a good-student discount (usually higher than a 3.0.GPA on your last full semester). If anything shop around for other carriers for good deals.

It depends on your grades, type of car, the amount of coverage required by law in your state, what you will be using the car for, how many miles a Day ?  Alot of  factors to consider.   A rough estimate would be around 1500.00 a year minium.
