Question:

Insurance question (=?

Do people in the UK lie about their age to get a low premium on their car insurance? have you lied or know someone who have?

I know a lot of people who said they lie about their age (19 say say're older) and get a lower insurance price, is that possible?

PS - quotes for young people are utterly ludicrious due to daft drivers, yeah, but still, roundabout £3000 if below 21 for lads.

Cheers for any answers.

  1. I don't see the point in doing that, because if you do make a claim, or if anybody makes a claim against you, the insurer will ask for a copy of your driving licence which has your date of birth on it.

If they find out you have lied, they can void your policy, meaning that you wont be covered for the claim, and if there was another driver involved and he goes to the police and tells them you weren't insured, you will also get charged for driving without insurance, which results in a fine and six points on your licence, and they could even take you to court for fraud.

As insurers also pass on information to each other, via the Central Underwriting Exchange, once you have defrauded an insurer, you will find it very hard to get insurance from anyone else, even if you give your correct age, as you will be named on the database as someone who has commited an offence under the Road Traffic Act, and all insurers will be able to see that information.
