International Mailing question?

How come some international packages can be delivered straight to your mailbox but with others, a post carrier leaves a

delivery attempt notice and you have to go to the PO? Does it depend on what type of mailing you use - such as surface mail? Please, somebody clarify for me! Thanks!

Actually, it will probably depend more on the postal carrier leaving it.  All packages delivered when someone isn't home should get a notice, but the guy may decide to leave it in your mailbox, especially if it fits.  The exception would be registered parcels that need a signature and wont be left without a signature, but I don't think they allow that type of delivery for most international parcels.
