International trips??

Question

Well I'm really interested in spending some time overseas in my high school years but I've had a look at some of the websites for those trips you go on and stay with a host family and they are all really expensive-even the month long ones. They are (as I've seen) priced around $10 000 which is way more than me and my family can afford. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any cheaper programs -maybe ones were you went and volentered. I can really only afford under $1000 but would still love to go. Any ideas??

You really won't find any under $1,000. I have looked all over but there isn't anything.

You could try applying for scholarships though, so you won't have to pay as much.

Intrax study abroad is a great and reputable organization for anyone interested in studying abroad and living in a foreign country.  They always offer special deals for various semesters and countries. Good luck!!

it's not under a $1000, but the cheapest trip I've found is a summer camp counselor program in russia. basically, you just live at the camp and do activities for one/two months. oh and it costs $2300...including airfare. http://ccusa.com

Allot of these organizations have scholarships...just read  them  carefully when you are going through the websites. I notice sometimes these links are not as noticeable as some others.  Also try the Elks club allot of them sponsor and send one teen from the community overseas for a year. I noticed last year on the  AFS website there was a  contest to write the best essay on a certain subject. Just keep looking if you succeed you'll have a very interesting year and great memory!
