  1. Sometime ago I looked into this.  Cable company will charge you an extra fee to get the service without "tv" plan.  It might be cheaper to go with the phone company.

  2. If you don't watch TV it's almost certainly going to be cheaper to get DSL instead of cable access.

However in most cases you can get a much faster cable connection the DSL, so if you do a lot of streaming or have 3 or 4 people using the internet connection at a time you may still want cable.

In my experince most cable companys do offer cable internet without tv service, however sometimes it's just as expensive as getting basic cable as well ( For a while where I lived it was actually cheaper to have basic cable and cable internet then cable internet alone.) . Also I've found that often you can still get some channels on cable TV if you're just signed up for Internet service.

  3. Sure you can.  I have high speed through Time Warner and TV through Dish Network.

  4. In my area, you have to actually have the cable service, then addthe Internet on to it.

I just have DSL, because I have a home phone anyway and it's not much more for the DSL service.

  5. Well, in many locales, the cable monopoly will let you get their highspeed internet service regardless of whether you're in on their full package. You won't get the advertised rates, though, as those are usually for people in a full package.

  6. Cable Internet is an add on to cable TV.  Cable Internet comes in on a cable TV channel so you need cable TV to get the Internet.

Now some cable systems will make you an Internet only deal. You will still have cable TV  but they block out all but the Cable Internet channel. So all you pay for is Internet.

Some will, some won't check with you local cable operator.
