Interview for Volunteering a Day Camp?

Question

Im volunteering for a Summer Day Camp where you supervise children and help out with activities and things & i think im qualified for this job.

1). What types of questions will they ask in an interview?

2). What should i wear? im 14 years old. 15 in august. what would be some appropriate things to wear?

Be honest during the interview.  When we used to interview for staff and volunteers, we were looking for someone honest, who actually wanted to be there (turned down some volunteers who's parents were forcing them to volunteer), that is going to work hard, be a good fit in the group, and is relatively easy to get along with.  If you're volunteering because you're interested, that's great, and most camps can find the appropriate spot for you depending on what you're interested in (crafts, drama, sports, etc).  We have asked what extracurriculars you're into, what you want to do in the future, how you might handle some common situations that arise at camp, etc.

As for what to wear - conservative, not too tight or revealing anything etc.  Maybe think of what you wear to visit grandparents?  Wear something that you're comfortable in, but that does present you as responsible and mature.

P.S.  You don't have to know everything in advance to be able to volunteer at a camp - we're also looking for enthusiasm, willingness to learn, etc.

What to wear- A cute top nothing to short or tight, and capris or a nice skirt nothing to short or tight

types of questions.- have you worked with children before, how would you handle a difficult child--

Also a ggod Idea to get your cpr maybe first Aid- I think the Red cross does it for free. that will look good if you go in and have that

The above answers are great for what to wear.

As for what types of questions - what I ask when I interview for my summer day camp include:

1 - what are your own vacation plans (I want to know how much time you plan to help out). Do you have school projects to do during the summer?

2 - what are your interests - I want to know where you could possibly fit in. Do you like sports, crafts, singing? Do you have any interests that are different, but interesting - do you play an instrument?

3 - What kind of experience with kids do you have? Do you babysit? Do you work at your church in Sunday School? Do you help out at your school?

The best advice I can offer: be yourself. I've hired shy kids, loud kids, talkative kids, all kinds of kids. I'm looking for kids who seem to be mature, but still have a sense of being a kid.

Good luck - relax!! Have fun!! Ask your own questions - I like knowing if the kids have any interest in the program. Ask about hours, expectations, whether you'll be assigned a mentor, what kind of training, emergency procedures, etc.

For what to wear be sure you wear something that covers up and very appropriate. They will not hire someone with short tight shorts and strapless top. I would wear a cute short sleeved top. It should be plain or have some sort of small floral/patern design. For bottoms I would wear jean capris rolled up and for accesories make sure your hair is nice up in a pony tail and mabey earings and a pretty non showy necklace. You want to keep it simple, and basic and nothing to much because that is a something they definietly look for.
