i bought a clown fish on saturday and put him in a 10 gallon tank. I bought him because i wanted to see how hard marine are to keep. i was going to get another one to be a pair but just wanted to see how he goes. The problem is that i have heard that if you dont introduce another one soon after they will fight. i was wondering, when do i have to get one before they fight. he is about 3cm thanks

  1. as long as it's an occelarius clown fish, he will be fine for a while in a 10 gallon tank, but needs to be upgraded to a 30 gallon sooner or later

DO NOT put another clown in that small of a tank

the only things you can add are invertebrates like snails and hermit crabs and some shrimp

    but that's it

  2. 10 gallons is too small for a pair of clownfish.

a 10 gallon marine tank should only be attempted by experts (it's classed as "nano") as anything under 30-40 gallons will have dramatically fluctuating water conditions which can kill if you're not very very careful.

i suggest taking this fish back to the store and researching marine keeping more, rather than experimenting on this poor fish.
