  1. i am pretty sure you can't change your I.P. address

    but i could be wrong.

  2. yolur IP address should not be the same as your brothers on 2 different computers, the IP is stored on the NIC and you don't share NIC's your default gate way will be the same as it's stored on your router

  3. I think you mean your IP address when connected to the network. If so:

    XP Home or Pro

Right click on My Network Places > Click on properties.

Then right click on Wireless Network Connection (for wireless) or Local Area Connection (For Network lead connection) > Select properties.

When the properties box opens you should be able to see a box with some tick boxes in. In this box scroll roght to the bottom, click once on the words "Internet Protocol TCP/IP", then click properties (below and to the right of the box)

When this opens you have the chance to set your ip address to automatic (random IP address will be assigned by the router or manual (you select your IP address).

Click on the bullet point next to "Use the following IP address"

Type the IP address you want to use (Normally 192.168.1.? or 10.0.0.?)

The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway should be the IP address of your router (normally 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1)

Then you can (if you know the password, connect to the router and reserve the IP address you chose for future, then the router will always assign that IP address to your computer)

    Hope this helps.

  4. What makes you think that you have the same ip address?

On both machines go to start/run/ type 'cmd' & hit enter

type 'ipconfig /all'   and hit enter

you will see a listing and one of the fields will be IP address: 192.168.10.10 or something like that.

I think that you will find that each one is different.

  5. if your talking about your ip adress from your internet provider u can not change it.... but if u want to change your router ip adress u should be able to do it by unpuluging your ethernet cable shuting down your computer then restart it and plug it back in when windows staRTS
