Ipod troubles, please help!?

when i plug my ipod into my computer it doesn't make the noise that it usually does when i plug it in. And when i open itunes it does not give me the option to sync music. But it does say that it is charging when it is plugged in. I can't decide if i should buy a new cord, i don't want to spend the $20 not knowing if it will work. Its been like this for months... PLEASE HELP!

take my advice, buy a new ipod and replace it with the old one and seal it like it was before and return it. Good luck.
