Ireland Chances at the World Cup?

Question

I'm a pure blooded Irish man who will follow Ireland's Great Run in the World Cup un-questioned but because of this I'm a bit one side.

So I'd like to know from everyone else what they think of Irelands chance of winning the World Cup or at least hoe far they will get.

They can reach the semis - will only lose there against the Wallabies

If Ireland are to come close we need to get rid of france, we need to win that group...if so we either get Scotland/ Italy in the quarter finals, we need to put those warm up games behind us and push forward. if you do make it to our first ever semi final we could face the Boks.......anything can happen on the day....most importantly we need O'Gara and O'driscoll fit and on top of their game.

Before any of this happens they need to get their asses in gear and perform rather than go through the phases.

Ireland have the potential to be champions, so do NZ, the only difference is that it is rare when they dont perform and with ireland its rare that we do (remember the English match). more often than not we play a moderate game and when we turn on the style even for 20 mins (Ireland Vs. France, Paris 2006) we can destroy teams. NZ usually do that for the full 80 mins, thats why they are complete favourites.

France are talking big things but I believe that they may buckle under the pressure from home fans. we can only wait and see

My ***. I'm french and I think France has a bit more chance to win it than Ireland but still I would really not bet on it.

Ireland have almost as many chances as France and Argentina to go through to the quarters and to top their group.

I mean it's a world cup, and on one match everything can happen. But if they don't, don't even expect them to make any kind of surprise against the AB, it's gonna be a rout! It's so obvious. If they top the group and play against Scotland and Italy, they will probably go through eventhough they can also loose as we saw during the preparation matches (Italy should have won). If they go through the Semi final, stop being greedy, they won't get even near a final the Bocks will be way to strong.

However I hope Ireland goes through with France and wish you could luck, but stop dreaming you're gonna hurt yourself......

I'm Welsh,and personally,I would like to see them go far.But,they are in a tough pool,top it,and they might go far.Possibly semi's if they top their pool by beating France and Argentina.Come second and you face the arrogant All Blacks.But,Ireland are a pretty good team not to be written off if they face the all blacks.Anyway,good luck....

France, Argentina and Ireland. Tough break in the draw. Argentina are no easy beats and France are expected to do great things.

It's a tough draw, unlucky for  Ireland because they have been playing some very entertaining running rugby - a pleasure to watch.

Argentina will be a handful - I think Ireland will have to work bloody hard just to make it to the knock out rounds.

And if they do they will most likely play NZ in the 2nd quarter final.

The best shot for Ireland is to give it their all in the pool matches - beat France and Argentina and go through to the knock out rounds as the winner of pool D. They will have to beat Scotland or Italy in the quarter and then beat  RSA to make it to the final.

Ireland have an outside chance(pretty much like argentina), but I won't put money on them.

My 4 contenders are:

1. The Kiwi's

2. Springboks

3. France

4. Aussies
