Question:

Ireland Golf Courses?

I'll be in Ireland in August and might be able to sneak away for half a round of golf. Are most of the golf courses there considered private or member exclusive? Are there any public courses and is it easy to walk on without a tee time? What are some good, respectable public golf courses near Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Killarney, or Shannon?

  1. Try Hollywood Lakes Golf Club, Ballyboughal, Co. Dublin. Twenty minutes drive from Dublin Airport. Look it up on www.hollywoodlakesgolfclub.com

  2. Look up Carton House, co Kildare on google... Its 45 mins from  Dublin I work there , there is a Colm Montgomery designed course! its cool!

  3. hi you

there is one public own one that i know of in the mohan area of cork city i dont play golf but i have been told by people that and have play on it is a good course

  4. You don't have to be a member on many of Ireland's golf-courses.

check out www.golf.ireland.ie or the index page of http://www.golfingireland.ie/

Mahon Golf Club in Cork is indeed a decent public course, as is Rathbane in Limerick - close to Shannon.

Shannon has a golf course right beside the airport - may be an idea.

August will be prime season for holidays - so you may want to select a few courses close to where you'll be located, have their numbers to hand and give them a call to see what's available closer to your requirement date when your schedule firms up a bit.

Adare in Limerick is great - the Adare Manor Old Course is tight but good and challenging. The championship Adare Course is one of the best in the country - maybe harder to get a tee-time, and a helluva lot more expensive.

    Enjoy!
