My fiancee and I are thinking of going to Ireland for our honeymoon this coming September. We were recently on a cruise and met a fantastic couple whi live in Cork City but also have another house near the beach about 50 miles from their house. They invited us to go to their beach house for the honeymoon. So nice of them, I know. So, my question is we would be flying from Philadelphia, PA. Anyone know how long it would take to fly there and have you flown from the states to Ireland before? If so, what airline did you use and where did you fly in to? I am think we would fly straight to London and then onto Cork. What is the weather like that time of year? It would be mid-September. Thanks for your input.

  1. Flights to Ireland might take 5-6 hours...I had been to Ireland and it's a wonderful, great, beautiful and lovely country - you'll love it over there.  But, remember that cars are driving on the left side over there in Ireland (and also in the UK).   The currency is the Euro (€) in Ireland since January 1, 2002.  But, it's still the pound in the UK (£).

For the actual weather for Ireland go to msn.com and look for the weather for Ireland, or to to http://www.weather.com as well or any other good weather websites.  In September, weather can be windy and rainy over there, but that's sometimes hard to predict.

You also should get some good travel books for Ireland in your local bookstore or library...or search the Internet for Ireland - or go to Google Ireland at http://www.google.ie

    Enjoy your trip to Ireland

    Greetings from Germany

  2. random but you could be luckey and get a indian summer its murphys law that when all the children go back to school after there summer holidays in september that we get some glourious weather  i wish you both well in married life and never go to bed on a row all ways make up and love and long life to you both

  3. The weather is totally random! Even though September has been pretty good for the last couple of years, it will still rain a little bit even if its the best weather in years so just don't be depending on the weather.

For flying have you considered flying direct to Ireland I don' think yo can fly from PA but Aerlingus fly to Shannon from Boston, JFK and Chicago. They seem to priced somewhat cheaper than flights to the UK. Shannon is only 1.5 hrs from cork. There is also a new flight from Boston to Knock airport(3hrs from Cork) by an airline called FlyGlobespan.com

again I think this could be pretty cheap, check it out.

Obviously it depends on the price of Internal flights in the U.S there is no point spending more travelling to Bosto than to Ireland!

If you decide to to go to the UK check out ryanair.com aerarann.ie for the cheapest flights to Ireland

  4. I live in Philly and my husband and I honeymooned in Ireland in Oct 2005. We flew US Air from Philly to Dublin, but I'm not sure if they are still running direct flights anymore. We returned to Ireland this past November and Flew US Air to Boston and then Air Lingus from Boston to Shannon. The total cost of 1 roundtrip ticket was around $400, cheap compared to some European destinations. The flight from Philly to Dublin took 6 hours there and 7 hours back, and from Boston to Shannon it was maybe a half hour less each way. When we went in mid-oct it was a bit chilly (some days we needed our winter coats other days we didnt) and a little rainy (but not too bad considering its Ireland). I'm guessing it would prolly be in the 50's (give or take) but would bring a winter coat just in case! Have fun...and if you're staying on the west coast be sure to get to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.....our favorite part of our trip.
