  1. If you hit your 8iron that length then you should hit 9I about 138-140.  Your PW would be about 125.  Lob wedge would fall around 90-100 yards.

To really dial your irons in, I would borrow someone's range finder and accurately set your distances.  You may be a little suprised.  I was.  I found I hit some irons shorter and some longer.

  2. club manafactures have nade the clubs with such strong lofts . that todays piching wedge  has 4 degrees more loft . with a half inch longer shaft in it . todays wedge should be 130  range , other compnies 140 plus . the 8 iron of 1998 is the wedge of today . cosider yor pitching wedge  a 8 one half iron . this will put you in the 130 range yet your sandwedge is 85 to 90 yards therfore company has forced you into adding a gap wedge . at 51 or 52 degrees which is what the pitching wedge of 1998 was . then a 59 or 60 wedge . it is just a manafacturing gimmick . i have irons late 90s , even then had the loft weakened . yet i am ridiculed because i hit my 7 iron mid 140s . to make it more ridiculous since i am a senior . use 5 wedges . the numbers on irond dont mean a thing . just find your distance with each club . any body asks what you hit just say my 150 yard iron . no matter what anybody says . todays distance bomber irons , create faults . overswining to hit 7 iron 180 etc . people also exgarate distance they hit clubs , even with low lofts . just find your comfort zone . call the clubs by yardage not numbers visit my basement have at least 80 wedges . let others tell you how far they hit there irons , just use your yardages , find a good used 51 or 52 gap wedge . then you will be fine . and i used to carry and use a one iron . got a few in basement too . good luck no ego low scores

  3. 9-140

    PW-130

    Lw-85

Of course it is a guess not knowing the actual lofts of your irons.

  4. you say you hit your new 8 iron. did you only buy that club or did you buy the whole set.

If it is a different club from the rest it will be hard to gauge the distance of the rest.

Great to hear you hit at 80%. This will help with your timing of the ball and therefore give you more control and distance.

As for your shorter irons e.g lob and wedges, Remember these are your 'accuracey" clubs. They are not generally meant to be hit there full ditance rather than you adjust your swing to the distance left. Remember those 3/4 swings and 1/2 swings. Thats were these come into play for those birdie oppurtunities or par saves. Hope this helps

    good golfing

  5. Dude, everybody is different.  Play your game and use whatever club you use to hit it the required distance.  I can't hit an 8 iron 150 yards so who am I to tell you what is normal?

  6. Firstly you hit the ball long compared to most amateurs. I play off 5 and hit my 8 iron roughly the same length as you do. I am 6 foot 8 and my irons are an inch longer so you're long to be hitting it the same length as me! These are the distances I hit with my LW and PW:

Lob Wedge (60 degree): 90-95 yards

Pitching Wedge (48 degree): 125-130 yards

I am presuming that the 80% you talk about is your normal rhythm and it means that you're just not forcing it. If you swing naturally quicker (say at 90%) I would add 5-10 yards on my estimates.

    Keep swinging!!!
