It was the summer before her senior year in college. And Colleen Cappon was looking forward to the same thing most 21-year-olds look forward to: relaxing, spending time with friends and, yes, even a little partying.

But this past July, she received a shock that would change the outcome of her summer and follow her as she completes her college career.

    Breast Cancer?

“I just put my bra on one day and it just so happened that the lump that I had was really hard and really big and it was really close to the skin,” Cappon explained. "So it was really easy to feel and I was wondering what it was and went to my gynecologist.”

Despite a family history of breast cancer, Cappon’s mother has had the disease twice, Cappon’s family and gynecologist thought the lump was more than likely just a cyst.

  6. It's rare but not unheard of especially if the woman has history of the disease within the family.

  7. no it is not rare, woman of all ages these days get it. 21 is not too young to get it. if you think you have t it is a good idea to go see you GP.

Specially if it runs in your family. Studies have shown that a person is more easily effected by breast cancer if it is in their family.

  8. yes, it is too young.........

  9. not at all

  10. heloo

    no age for cancer..

    good luck

  11. No.

  12. it is possible but very rare at that young of an age.

  13. yes

  14. no i was diagnosed at 25 and they said it had been growing since i started developing breast HOWEVER, breast cancer in ages under 30 is extremely rare.

  15. Life sux....so many things that are unpredictable, but worrying can cause some of these so be weary.

  16. You can get cancers of all types at any age. They are more common in later life though.

  17. Your never to old to get breast cancer. Go get a mammogram if your not sure. It can't hurt you to go get checked.

  18. unfortunaly no but is rare if you have any worries see your doctor or practice nurse

  19. no, if you have concerns about your b*****s though talk to your gynecologist. it is possible that you could have pain in both b*****s during menstruation or in one breast when you ovulate on a certain side. doctors don't reccomend mammograms until women turn 40, but those are routine screening mammograms. if you have your b*****s checked and there is concern, he will reccomend a diagnostic mammogram.

starting when women are 18 they should be haviung yearly breast and pelvic exams by a GYN and routinely checking their own b*****s in the shower (your GYN will tell you how) once a month.

honestly though, it is probably fine. it is very normal to have breast pain and changes at that age. i saw my GYN this summer and had one of the drs at hte practice i work for check my left breast because iw as very concerned about pain and it turned out to be nothing but ovulation pain

  20. It isn't the norm but it is possible, cancer doesn't really care about age. If you find a lump, get it checked out immediately.

  21. Approximately a quarter of breast cancers affect women under the age of 50, a half occur between the ages of 50 and 69 and the remaining quarter develop in women who are 70 years or older.

  22. there are very few rare cases of girls getting breast cancer until their mid 30's and on...thats why they usually dont give you mammograms until your in your forty's. You can always give yourself a breast check http://www.healthcentral.com/breast-canc... this website will teach you how and if you may have any suspicions go to the doctor. I wish good health in the future!

  23. it is possibled but very rare but you should get it checked just to be safe!
