I'm taking AP Lit next year as a junior. I haven't taken AP Lang. I'm just wondering...is it a hard class? What exactly does it get into? I know literature, but any specifics?

  1. If you enjoy reading and retain what you read, you should be fining. There will be writing involved but the teacher will instruct you about that. It is good preparation for college. You will be fine.

  2. It really depends on your teacher.  My teacher was not very good at instructing us in the classroom, but he gave really interesting (challenging, but interesting) assignments, and it really helped us open our minds.  We read all different kinds of literature, from classic plays to recent novels to romantic poetry.  We would also frequently have discussions about the material that we read, which helped us to understand it more.  So overall it was a hard course, but I've definitely had harder.  Bottom line, it's a college course, so it's going to be more difficult than a normal English class, and you're probably going to get more homework.  But it's definitely rewarding, especially, if you do well on the AP test at the end.  And if you like the subject enough to take the advanced class, I think you'll be fine.  Plus, if it's that bad, you can always switch to another level English class.  Good luck!  I hope this helps!
