Is Amtrak safe?

Question

Does anyone know how to check safety record of certain Amtrak routes? Safe in terms of the security on the train. In particular from Seattle, riding south.

Well you know its as safe as anything else in life.

Such as parachuting from a plane or mountain climbing

They are as safe as you want them to be.. The ride is smooth and the view just leaves you breathless at times but its when neither the chute doesn't open or you lose your footing remember, its that sudden stop that always kills you.

Amtrak as a whole is very safe.  I would know since i take it often when i am off duty from being a conductor for another railroad.  if you would like to find out more about their safety, there might be a link on the amtrak website: www.amtrak.com, which might lead you to their safety policy link.  As for the trip south from Seattle, not only is it safe, but it is very comfortable as the trains, the Coast Starlight or the Surfliner are both very technologically advanced, comfortable, and pretty fast.  you have nothing to worry about i terms of safety, and you should sit back and enjoy the view of the coast :)

No more or less safe than riding a city bus or airplane.  But unlike some city buses, I've never heard of a crime on Amtrak.  There are conductors, and you can hang out in the café car if someone is making you feel uncomfortable.
