Question:

Is Anyone Against Horse Racing?

While some may love the sport, I wonder if anyone realizes the difference between sports with humans verses sports with animals? Humans have choices, animals don't. Is that a mystery to some?

  1. Horses and Dogs love to run. Who are we to deprive them?

  2. Horse racing is not cruel, get over yourself.  It's sad that two horses suffered two very serious injuries in huge races, in two years, but stuff happens.  The high dollar race horses are treated better than most people, so they aren't mistreated.

  3. I will support horse racing till the day I die.

  4. I love horse racing i will support it and watch it the rest of my life. At the track and on tv

  5. Im not against horse racing.

No animal has a real "choice". Dogs don't "choose" to be inside or outside dogs. Birds don't "choose" to live in cages. Horses don't "choose" when they want to be ridden.

Thoroughbreds are made for running, its what they love. Just like a dog loves to swim and fetch, and a cat loves to play with string, Thoroughbreds love to run. Without horse racing their breed could be extinct. A horse would'nt run if it didn't want to, a 100 pound jockey would have no control over this enormous animal. So really, if you thought about it. They DO choose to run. And besides, these horses are treated better than most of us.

  6. I don't see how horse racing is any different from other horse sports.  In fact, racehorses are usually kept in better conditions than most backyard owners.

  7. what happened at the kentucky derbi made me think that animals shouldnt be put through that. i think its too mcuh for them.

  8. This topic is soo difficult. I do show jumping. I've riden my whole life. SOme people think what I do is wrong or cruel. My horses don't jump if they don't want to jump. Horses don't run if they don't want to run. The problem is, they are running these horses too hard. Training too hard. If my horse happens to be sore from the day of jumping before, he gets some meds to make him more comfy (b/c it's not like they lie down and rest on a comfy bed), and has a few days off. I never push my horses to the point where they can injure themselves. Raxing hs got to stop. Most of my horses are ex race horses. The work I have had to put into them to make them feel safe with people is sick! These horses do not get the affection thatanimals deserve. I am not some crazy veggan animal activist, but I do not believe in animal cruelty, and I believe that just like children, animals need love and affection. Let's all try and figure out a way to stop this. That horse went through agonizing pain (yes he was put down) but it shouldn't have to be that way.
