  1. no, im on effexor xr and xanax, but.....

Depression is not fully understood, but a growing amount of evidence supports the view that people with depression have an imbalance of the brain's neurotransmitters, the chemicals that allow nerve cells in the brain to communicate with each other. Many scientists believe that an imbalance in serotonin, one of these neurotransmitters, may be an important factor in the development and severity of depression.

PROZAC may help to correct this imbalance by increasing the brain's own supply of serotonin.

Some other antidepressant medicines appear to affect several neurotransmitters in addition to serotonin. PROZAC selectively affects only serotonin.

While PROZAC cannot be said to "cure" depression, it does help to control the symptoms of depression, allowing many people with depression to feel better and return to normal functioning.

  2. Yes I was on Prozac before for depression. It helped until they realized that my problem was suffering from high anxiety. So now I take Xanax and that helps much better.  Side effects I had on Prozac were insomnia, loss of appetite and sometimes upset stomach.

    Good luck

  3. Hey. I've been on Prozac for depression, I recommend you or anybody else stay away from it and try something else. It is known to work well for a while and eventually cause a relapse. I was on it for about a year and it worked wonders and then all of a sudden I was feeling worse than I did before I had started it. In my opinion, it's not worth it. I have also been told it can effect your attention span or memory, something of that sort. Anyway, best of luck and I do recommend trying Lexapro, my cousin is on it and she feels incredible, it is also known to help you recover permanently and you will eventually be able to lead a normal life free of medication. But do take into consideration that different medications effect different people differently. But I did have a horrible relapse while on it, that was about 6 months ago and I'm still working to find an appropriate medication for me. But really, best of luck.

  4. I've been on prozac for almost a month now, and noticed a lift in my mood very soon. I still feel low, but my moods not dipping as low as it was. As Im sure you're aware though Prozac or any anti-depressants arent a "magic pill", as my doctor said it can help to lift and balance out your mood enough for you to be stronger and make some changes that you need to in your life and thinking in combination with talking therapies.

During the early stages I had real problems sleeping, my sleep isnt always consitant anyway because of my depression but with Prozac it was different-I would put my head down at bedtime and just didnt feel tired at all!

I also experienced dizziness and light-headedness but that too seems to have passed.

Good luck if you're taking Prozac yourself, people all react different to different anti-depressants and the only way to find out if its right for you is to try it!

  5. I've taken it for a couple of years now with no side effects and it has helped a lot.

  6. No, and I recommend for your own safety that you avoid taking antidepressants. Here's why:

Antidepressants actually block or eliminate your body's neurotransmitters and "trick" your brain into thinking that the levels are high when they are not. In depressed and anxious people, their levels of neurotransmitters (seratonin, dopamine, etc) are often too low due to either stress, poor nutrition, etc. Taking medications often eliminates the neurotransmitters altogether and causes one to become dependent on them (when they stop, they are more depressed than before).

Anyone who tells you otherwise, is misinformed.

My DO (doctor who treats the entire body, not just the symptoms) has put me on amino acids, Neuroreplete, which help to stimulate your brain to produce more neurotransmitters. I am told is 100% safe and effective and is all natural. There are NO side effects. That, coupled with cognitive-behavioral therapy can completely eliminate depression and anxiety, including a number of other mental health issues.

You can go here to see info. on my DO. Many can be found online or in the phone book. Go to one who specifically deals with depression and ask about amino acids and NeuroReplete.

  7. lots of ppl, popular drug

  8. I am bipolar.  I have been on Prozac in the past.  It caused me to be anxious and irritable.  My doctor then placed me on Paxil (generic: paroxetine HCl).  My disorder, though, was so serious that I had to be placed on additional medication.  Paxil is in the same family of drugs as Prozac is.  It has really help me.  However, a person can experience some sexual side effects from it.

Be sure and talk these concerns over with your psychiatrist.  Psych meds can work differently for other people.  Only he or she can best prescribe the right med or combination of meds.

God bless. Go with the grace of God.

  9. I was on it for about 2 and a half months

It made me feel better for a week, then it leveled off so my doc incresed the dose (i was on it for depression n bulimia) which made me feel suicidal again so i stoped taking it (didnt go back to the doc n saved the pills, which i shouldnt have done but i just cant seem to throw them away)

As for side effects, i had really bad heart burn, and it made me feel less hungry to start with but it didnt last long and didnt help with anything for me anyway

    Good luck though
