  1. yes...and the schnitzel at "the schnitzel house" is not very good either

  2. Is shopping expensive in Austria? Yes it can be, especially in the larger cities like Vienna and Graz but, like everywhere else it pays to shop around and not in the "tourist trap" areas downtown. You get better bargains in the outer neighbourhoods, and away from the main tourist attraction areas like palaces, museums, etc. But having said that, if you were to buy something hand made (made locally), like jewellry or designer clothing or artwork, you will pay a lot more. Vienna, the capital of Austria and the largest city in that country, has more shopping choices and the best shops.

  3. No, food and drink is value for money. Clothes are slightly cheaper than UK prices. Hotel prices same as UK, but better accommodation.

  4. Yes............Went there a few years ago...............

Take lots of euros if you go...............

    Good luck...................

  5. It really depends on what you want to buy and where you're from. I lived there for a few years and I found that prices for most things were on a par with the UK. in some cases clothing was marginally cheaper depending on the exchange rate between the Euro and the Pound. There aren't so many sale bargains to be had as in the UK and no really "low cost" stores but all the main retailers like H & M. Esprit, C & A, Benentton, Mexx etc are all there. Peek and Cloppenberg can be a good place to get a bargain. If you are going to Vienna, the place where all the locals go shopping is Shopping City Sud which is in Voesendorf, on the south side of the city - you can drive or take a tram.  Tchibo is a good place to by gadgets and housewares. If you want to buy wine go to a Heuriger and buy from the producer - Austria has the best wine in Europe and you can get some excellent wines at a fraction of the cost you would pay in a store at home. Most heuregern also offer excellent food at very reasonable prices. Most restaurants are very good - lunch menus are the best buy but stay away from fast food outlets, they're not brilliant. If you do go to Austria I hope you had a great time - I'd go back in a flash!
