Is Dinara Safina for real?

Question

Darina Safina appears to have no fear of any player and she has dispatched Sharapova twice now this year. She's not overpowering, but has good shot selection, and I suppose we have yet to see how far she can get on grass - but she looks tough. Is she the next threat to challenge for #1?

Safina has always had a lot of potential, but until this clay court season she hadn't really produced consistently, and was prone to mental lapses in matches.  But the way she's played lately, beating Henin, Serena, and now Maria, she may just be ready to break through to the next level.  Way to carry on the Safin/Safina family tradition.

god love safina.....at the end,her attitude looked so positive and together. she did show some glimpses of the temper she's always been known for but overall i was impressed. and to me,her attitude was always something that was her downfall but after that rain delay,she came back out and played with a stronger head.

i think if she can continue in that kind of direction the possibilities are endless. she plays really well on most if not all other surfaces so,it's just a matter of keeping positive throughout.

yes i think safina is a real thing. i hope she will take the french title because she surely deserves it. unlucky for sharapova today though because i thought she was gonna win. congrats to safina.

Yep she is..She's fierce.That was a gutsy win, i'm totally loving her.

She beat Henin,Serena and Dementieva respectfully at the German Open, all coming from a set down-only without the drama like at Roland Garros.

she sure is. i remember reading  her big brother marat's interview when she was just 14 and he 20. he predicted that she'll be a very, very good player. and boy, she is! she has proved to be the player to beat this  claycourt season and will go a long way, provided she hasnt inherited her bro's inconsistency and temper or at least keeps it in check. all said and done, i am really happy for her. what a way to carry forward the safin  family legacy!

Whatever problems she may have had in the past ,she seems to have left them there - in the past.

That being said,Maria has never been comfortable on clay and if she is going to be beaten it's going to be on a clay surface.

Let's see what Safina can do on grass next month. She still has to prove herself there against Maria.
