Question:

Is Formula 1 boring ??

In F1 the build up to race is interesting, the atmosphere is good but the race itself is boring..

At the moment this is how I watch F1, I see the first 4 laps and I can pretty much predict the final result...

I comeback and watch the middle part of the race for another 1 lap to confirm my predictions..

I see the end part of the race and usually there will be no surprises to what I predicted

Race over..

Next race, same thing all over again...

Only races that are interesting are the ones where there is rain for short durations during the race

How do you find F1 race ?

  1. Yes, it can get boring sometimes, like the race in Barcelona for example, especially for the less hardcore fans who are in the majority.

Those involved in motorsport tend to appreciate more what they see because they have been in a racing situation themselves and have got a taste of the real thing.

I suppose to the rest it may not make as much sense.

Many people find something they like in F1, the cars, the human element, the atmosphere, the technology.

I pretty much like all of it and I can appreciate the rigors of driving through a fast corner or braking heavily and trying to hold the car in a straight line or whatever.

But yes, sometimes when I'm tired, and on Sunday evenings I usually am, I'd like to see some more exciting battles.

After the first round of pitstops people's strategys are revealed together with the most likely outcome.

I too would like to see more battles on the track and for the drivers to have a chance to overtake rather than hope the guy in front makes a mistake.

I think banning traction control was a step in the right direction and hope next year's rule changes will take it quite a bit further.

  2. Nope, not boring at all.  I watch the race, tape it and watch it again later in the week.  I love it.  Could it get better? absolutely.

  3. Yes it is there is so much handling in it that you can just hold the gas down and go

  4. It's not as good as it used to be in the 1980's due to the rule changes.

For example making the cars use grooved tyres reduces their mechanical grip so they rely on aerodynamic grip more.  This means cars cannot follow each other closely round the quicker corners making passing harder as if you get to within about a second of the car in front you tend to find the car slides around as it has lost a lot of downforce due to the slipstream effect.  Cars sliding around wear their tyres out quicker as well.

The rule changes for next year might help, they are bringing back slick tyres and making changes to the aerodynamics that should reduce the amount of downforce the cars can generate.

I thought that the last race at Istanbul was good due to the fact that Hamilton was on an unusual strategy, I didn't know who was going to win that until the final pit-stops, had Hamilton had abother 3 laps of fuel he could have done it.

If F1 was boring you wouldn't have millions of people all around the globe watching it.  Some find it boring, some love it.

  5. ROBERT M B:

are you stupid? the drivers are often on the brakes and they are constantly shifting through the 7 gears. if you could just floor it and not have to shift they would call it indy.

  6. I get this question all the time whether it be F1 or soccer and guess what all those people have in common!? They don't understand the sports and all they want all the time is action. I go to the Australian GP every year... did you predict that only seven cars would finish that race!?

F1 supporters don't have to justify ourselves constantly as to why we love this sport.

  7. No, but it depends where they are racing. At circuits like Bahrain it is boring. But otherwise it's quite exciting. Sure, overtaking at Monaco is really hard but it puts the drivers' skill to the test. one small error and it's a DNF.

But if you can predict things lie that maybe it's not because the race is boring but you are clairvoyant.  I think that's the word

  8. F1 rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Well, it depends. Some races can be very boring because it lacks action and overtaking, while usually the races are interesting and keeps us on the edge of our seats. Monaco is always a very interesting action-packed race!
