In polytheistic religions you would have to say "gods"  for plural form.

God as in Gods becomes plural, because so many things can be placed into that category.

Satan, money (the love of), idols, celebrities, food, s*x, drugs,

alcohol, etc., etc., etc.; are all classic examples of personal gods

which rule people's lives. The gods of Mythology. It all depends upon

your personal beliefs.

Since it is capitalized I assume you are referring to an Abrahamic God. And if you are I can explain.

There were two Hebrew names for God, one came from the south Elohim, and one from the north Yahweh. When the books of Moses were compiled, they combined both names: Yahweh Elohim, which translates literally as "Yahweh the Gods". But, who knows, those ancient Israelites could only show God with what attributes they knew about, and omniscience wasn't one, just to have an example. They might have believe there had to be more than one to have certain attributes, and they also could have been wrong about this.
