  1. Puerto Rico has a "protected" status of the United States.  This is much like Virgin Islands and other places.

Protected status grants certain luxuries like tax breaks or subsidies for disasters or business loans.  In reality, they are owned by the U.S. (just not using the word 'owned', rather 'protected')  Like Greenland is owned by Denmark.  Check out a world map and look at the islands north of Australia.  WHEW !!!  Owned (I mean 'Protected') by different countries.

  2. Yes and No

They aren't a state, but they do receive US Social Security Numbers when they are born.  I guess you could consider them as a US territory.

  3. Yes.  Puerto Rico is a US Territory.

That means that if you are flying to there from the US (or vice versa) it is a domestic flight and you don't need a passport if you are a US Citizens.

That means Puerto Ricans are citizens of the US.

Because it is a territory, Puerto Rico does not have a senator or congressperson.  They do not pay federal taxes, either.

  4. ummm no..they might use the US currency and they wanted to be part of the us but no they arnt

  5. Yes, it is part of the USA, Puerto Ricans do not need a passport to come To any of the 50 states

  6. no but puerto rico is

  7. no, they wanted to make it a state. but that didn't happen.

  8. Puerto Rico is a territory of the United /states.  it belongs to the United /states just like the U.S. Virgin islands and Guam.  The people of Puerto Rico are American citizens.  See website below.  Be sure to scroll down and read the section on government.

  9. SORRY I DON'T KNOW

  10. Puerto Rico is NOT part of the United States, however it is administered as an overseas possesion of the U.S. and therefore federal law applies to the island in most cases. The U.S. Supreme Court ( Balzac v. Puerto Rico - 1922) has ruled that the island is NOT part of the United States, therefore the island is allowed to have their own Olympic team, international representation in certain events. If it was part of the USA, there would be a star on the U.S. flag to represent the island, Puerto Ricans would have to pay federal income tax and they would be able to vote in national elections.
