Is Serendipity good?

Is the Serendipity 3 in NYC a good restaurant? I always hear about their frozen hot chocolate, but hows everything else?

The frozen hot chocolate is great, and yes you'll wait in line for a few hours.  It is touristy, but is worth a trip once.  I thought the food was good.  While you are waiting for your table walk down the street to Dylan's Candy Bar - an awesome candy store!

The only thing I've had there was the frozen hot chocolate. It's really good and the portion size is humongous. They also sell packets so you can go home and do it yourself.

Serendipity is overpriced, very crowded - you can stand on a line for two hours waiting for a table, service is very mediocre, they were closed by the Board of Health for rats, rat droppings, mice, mouse droppings, roaches, roach f***s, stagnant water in the basement with a huge bacteria count.  If you must try the hot chocolate, buy a package and make it at home.  I'm pretty sure they've reopened.

[In the mid-nineties, New York was hit with a very pure strain of heroin (called China Cat). A lot of addicts died.  Aaron something or other was the chef at Serendipity at the time.  He died of an overdose of China Cat]

Tourist trap and it is closed because of health violations

Latest thing I heard is that one of the stores had to shut down due to rats.
