Is Sri lanka safe?? I know about the bombings and stuff

but is it a safe place to go on holiday?

I was in Sri Lanka in May last year and experienced no problems at all. In fact, I travelled extensively through the country and was always greeted warmly and treated well. In fact, I can't wait to go back there.

The main problems for years have always been in the North East where the Tamil Tigers are and it seems once in a while, they decide to cause havoc which makes every one think there's a war on. Just avoid that area if you really want to visit Sri Lanka

SAFETY AND SECURITY:  Due to the outbreak of hostilities in July 2006, the Department of State issued a Travel Warning for Sri Lanka that strongly advises American citizens not to travel to the North and East of Sri Lanka. Several thousand people have been killed since the fighting began, including over 1,000 security personnel. Since 1997, the State Department has included the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on its list of foreign terrorist organizations. Terrorist activities such as suicide bombings and targeted assassinations in the capital city of Colombo and other areas of the country remain a serious threat. The LTTE have targeted many Tamil moderates, Sri Lankan military and government officials, and the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka. As the conflict continues, the U.S. Embassy expects that targeted assassinations and bombings in the Colombo area will continue. The government’s announcement of its withdrawal from the Ceasefire Agreement may increase the risk of such attacks.  The Department of State strongly advises against all travel to the North and East of Sri Lanka.

i would suggest avoiding a holiday to sri lanka atleast for the time being. i went for 3 weeks in july 2007 and found it alright except that was before the ceasefire was called off. even when i went, security was tight and it was a right pain trying to get through the city (colombo). whenever ministers go through the area, they close everything off until the ministers have passed safely. on weekends even with traffic settled down it was hard to get to places because the checkstops would stop you everywhere to check your passports..

I dont really know about the safety situation, but I do know that if you're living a comfortable life in the US, you can live like royalty in sri lanka! My friend lived there for like a year cause of her dad's buisness of wtvr, and they lived in a mansion, with chefs, butlers, maids... yeah so i guess luxury living for a small amount of money wont be so bad!

No, it isn't. That country is living a civil war since many years ago.

I'm Egyptian and I know that country is very dangerous.
