Is TIVO worth it for me

Question

my birthday is comin up in a couple weeks and everyone has been asking me what I want. I want TIVO (I think lol) I have a three year old son who restricts my tv viewing to Spongebob and Sesame Street lol :D and I love mr dr. phil and judge judy and such and would love to watch them at night when my baby is asleep and get some 'me' time when there is nothing on tv. is it worth it for me to get TIVO. how much is a basic one and costs and such. and is it easy to use cause I am challenged when it comes to that stuff haha!

Digital Video Recorders (DVR &Tivo) are awesome!  The ability to watch shows when you want or have time to cannot be under estimated.  Also you can pause live TV.  So if you get a phone call, the baby needs you or somebodys at your door you can pause TV without missing anything.  Didn't catch what they said the first time? Rewind it!  As for Tivo, it's a great product, BUT you have to pay a subscription fee.  I have a Philips DVR with DVD recorder and I love it!  It does everything the Tivo does without the subscribtion fee.  Okay it does everything BUT finding your favorite shows and automatically recording them.  The Philps 375 DVR recorders like a typical vcr.  You'll need to know the day and time your shows are on to record them.

If you don't have the time and energy to figure out when your shows are on Tivo is a great choice...if you've got the money:-)

Rich - the Phillips unit is not ALMOST the same as a Tivo. The Phillips unit is a VCR, just without tapes. The Tivo has Youtube, IPTV Movie and TV show downloads from Amazon, video podcasts, picture, video and audio streaming from home computers, weather, games, scheduling recordings from a computer while you are at work, etc. Not to mention the great recording options, like Season Pass or record all shows with your favorite actor,director,keyword,etc. This is great for finding cool cameo appearances or even it automatically recording when your favorite actor is on late night talk shows.

Yes it is more expensive but you get what you pay for. Tivo is the Cadillac. It is super easy to use, kids have no trouble with it. The pricing varies by which model you choose, and if you want to pay a monthly subscription or if you want to pay a single upfront payment for "lifetime service".
