I think that Tendulkar will always be seen as a classic batsmen up there with Lara, Waugh, Border and Gower. Ponting is a great batsmen but I don't feel he is in that class.

One In A Million is right, probably the best bowlers that Ponting has had to face would include Murali, Harbajan, Flintoff but would have faced them in different series.

Tendulkar is the most wholesome batsman in modern era, who plays almost every shot in  the book at will. At his prime, he has scored runs in most adverse conditions. While Tendulkar scored heavily in Australia, Ponting struggles in India

Tendulkar was a one man army,

Punter has lot of quality players (match winners), only India was to relay most of the times on tendulkar...

Punter shows attitude and his behaviours is not so good

Punter has always had the cushion of Hayden , Langer and Gilchrist to protect him from new ball and the pressure of early wickets.

Punter has scored tons against bangladesh and west indies whereas punter doesn't have much centuries against good team like India

Tendulkar is a class batsman and lies in a separate category and Punter comes in the next lower grade.

Punter has escaped bowlers like Mcgrath, Lee and Warne whereas Tendulkar scored his runs against all legend bowlers.

in terms of pure cold hard facts Tendulkar wins hands down.Tendulkar started test cricket when he was just 16 & pointing didn't start un-till his early 20s.both have similar amount of  100s & 50s and both will probably end up with similar career totals when they retire, but I would have to go with Sachin Tendulkar as being the best batsman I have had the pleasure to watch.

This is a nonsense argument & well you know it! Ponting has faced Murali, The world's no 1 bowler, not to mention all those other good bowlers out there, so where's your argument. And for the record, of course he has faced those bowlers you mentioned, in domestic cricket. Why do you insist on commenting on issues you know nothing about?
