Question:

Is This the Right Ram?

I have an AMD computer that has 512MB of DDR333 RAM. According to CPUZ, it's PC2700.

I bought some RAM today for it:

Hynix

PC2700 512MB DDR 333MHz

I have tried to install this chip now 4 times, in the second slot, alongside the original chip. And I've also tried it with the positions reversed; and I have tried this darn chip in every slot.

Each time I try to boot with the new RAM installed, the computer makes the error sound for RAM problem. I don't even get a POST screen.

Every time I take it out, it starts fine, just using the old chip by itself.

Can anyone help me? Is this new RAM faulty? Or is it simply the wrong kind? How can I tell?

Thank you very much to whoever helps me. I'm in some dire straits about this.

  1. Learn more about 'beep' sound at http://www.firewall.cx/ftopict-471.html

Since you have tried to boot with just the new RAM, you may have a faulty RAM or incompatible RAM for your MOBO.

Return it to the store you purchased and exchange it.

  2. i dont know without looking at it srry you sould bring it to a computer shop most of the time they dont charge for something that small well at least we dont at our shop

  3. Have you tried booting the computer with only the new memory module, with the old one(s) removed?  If it works that way, then you have a compatibility problem, your computer doesn't like having two different types of RAM in it.  Even though the specs are exactly the same, the chip that the RAM uses is likely different.  This can sometimes cause a conflict.  It is, however, the correct specs for your system.

If you try to boot the computer with just the new RAM, and just the old RAM, and it works both ways, then this is your problem.  If it won't boot with the new RAM only, then you received bad RAM.  Return it for an exchange.

  4. It is the right RAM.  Have you tried booting the computer with just the new stick?

It is possible to purchase, brand new, bad RAM.  you can download a memory tester from http://www.memtest86.com/ and burn it to a bootable disc.  But since your computer won;t even boot with the new RAM, that's a pretty good indication you should send it back where you bought it, for a replacement.

  5. Hey,

I looked up your PC. Though the manual doesn't say so, (wonderful, i know), the GA-7VA will require you have double-sided RAM.

My bet is that you only have single-sided, which will not work in your system, no matter what you try and do with it.

If the module of ram is single, then there is no hope. Take it back and ask politely for an exchange.

If you are absolutely positive that the module of RAM is double, then this will prove to be faulty RAM.

  6. It Sounds Like You Need Some New RAM Because I've Had That Problem 14 Times In The Last 4 Weeks. Try Booting It Without Any RAM Then Press And Hold Ctrl, Alt And Del Whenever Then Boot With New RAM And It Might Just Work Otherwise Just Buy New RAM Sorry I Can't Be More Help....
