Now he is slightly underrated, but he just can't stay healthy...playoffs are where you make a name for your self.

I think he's overrated. At 7'6 and over 300 pounds, he should dominate all other big men in the league, but for his career he's about and 20 ppg 10 rpg player, when each of those should be about 5 higher.

i think Yao has yet to hit his prime.  He's currently a top 2 center in the league (him and D12)-- although guys like Oden, Bynum, and Kaman- can move into that top eschelon quickly. I've always been amazed by how coordinated and agile Yao is for his size- most guys his size- are extremely slow.

Yao has been getting a bit better in terms of his aggression and with Shaq declining is definitely the best center in the West and his health is a big factor in how far the Rockets will go this year.

He's not under-rated- although i also think he has room to improve and has yet to hit his prime- if he can stay healthy.

I saw someone said Yao's stat was not dominant enough - if stats can tell and reflect every single truth, Bruce Bowen should not be runner-up of Defensive Player of the Year for consecutive seasons coz he has never been a leader in any defense-related statistic category in any single season in his career.

But Yao is an efficient go-to guy. Shaq and Diwght Howard have better FG% than Yao, but they rely on dunks, putbacks and baby hooks; Yao is a legitimate mid-range shooter who can even shoot a 3 - not to mention his good FT% (career average=82.6%).

Defensively Yao's stat is in-line with elite Cs. One should understand that extremely tall players (I refer to those above 220cm or 7'3") like Yao are used to be less mobile (unless they can swim like Tim Duncan) and they should be less threatening as an offensive rebounder, yet Yao has made progress in that area last year. For defensive rebound, Yao is as good as KG, Duncan or Shaq.

The reason why every team sees Yao as a potent threat is that he can really shoot and pass, which allows Rockets to run various plays in both high and low posts. Such an attitude is common among non-American players such as Big Z (but he is way-off to be called a good passing C).

Believe it or not, Cs are used to be fully matured at a latter age, and at 28, Yao is still years away from reaching the peak. His body maybe weaker (ironically it is mainly because of his height), but Yao is god enough to prove Sir Charles and Shaq have been stupidly overlooked him.

Actually i think he is overrated. It's true that he is a good player but he gets injured too much (probably because of his size) and even with tracy mcgrady, he has never won a nba championship with his team

I dont think he is underrated.  He gets the credit he deseves.  A 25/10 center, ppl know that.

Its hard to underrate a player who consistently capture the most votes for the ALL Star game lol.  Even if a majority of those votes are coming from Asia.
