Question:

Is accounting a good major?

I'm wondering if I should major in accounting, I've never been a good student prior to taking my first accounting class but ever since I've taken it I've been really interested in it and I'm thinking of majoring in it. I've raised my grades and I'm an honor student. Now I'm pondering weather I should transfer out to a university as an accounting student. I know its hard but I think that's why I like it, it picks at my brain and is completely out of my realm.

Any advice?

  1. Accounting is tough, no lie.  But, it is one of the top paying degrees.  If you really love it, do it.  If you get that piece of paper that says " B.B.A accounting" you are looking at 45-60 k right out of school.  After the first two or three years, its six figures until retirement.  Mad Money

  2. Before you make that decision, I would take another accounting course on a different topic to test if you really like the entire scope of what the major and profession requires.  For advice on that i would be upfront with a professor and ask them what other course you should take.  The paragraph you posted should also be presented to them, they have good knowledge of what it takes or else they wouldn't be teaching it lol.  Get some ideas from them, the jump into university is difficult and costly so make sure this is what you want to do.  Not going to lie to you, the money isn't the best with accounting, job can be boring but if you have a knack for doing it, you will enjoy it and be able to live comfortably.  Good Luck and Please talk to your professor for me!
