Is anonymous Text Message a scam?

I received a Text message, that had no Sender ID. The sender knew my name, and asks me to phone a number URGENTLY, with refernce number. If this was so urgent wouldnt they let me know who they were rather than send out anonymous text. is this likely a scam. Number is 0844 0844 880 8899. Have googled it. but couldnt find any info.

Yes, it's a scam.  0844 phone numbers are revenue-generating numbers that charge the dialer and share the proceeds with the holder of the number.

Some simply use a sequential dialer to mass transmit to all cellphones without knowing any specific numbers, while others may spend some money to learn the names of cell phone owners so they can address them by name (thereby seeming more legit).

As you said, if it were so 'urgent', they would have no problem identifying themselves.
