People's Republic of China (PRC) - commonly known as China. Beijing is the capital.

Republic of China (ROC) - commonly known as Taiwan. Taipei is the capital. Also known as Chinese Taipei.

Perhaps you were confused by the use of PRC & ROC.

Beijing is in the Peoples Republic of China.  (mainland China).

Taiwan is an island 150 km or so from Fujian Province.

Taiwan's official name is the Republic of China.   Some elderly people in Taiwan say that ROC is the legitimate government of mainland China--just because they lost the civil war doesn't change that.

So.  If Taiwan is ROC, and the few elderly people are right, then Beijing is in ROC. Therefore Beijing is in Taiwan.

The reality is that Beijing is in the Peoples Republic of China, and Taiwan is in every functional respect an independent country.

I wish other answerers would be more patient with askers putting up questions.  I am a teacher, and I have learned over the years to be patient with people who do not know as much as I do.

I'm Canadian.  Calling Taiwan "Chinese Taipei" is like calling Canada "American Ottawa".  Just because we have a border with a powerful neighbour with whom we have a shared heritage does not diminish our sovreignty one iota.

We are the true north, strong and free.

I want for China and Taiwan to resolve their differences with mutual respect, for a goal of peaceful co-existence.
