  1. if you make it yourself from used grease it is less expensive than petroleum diesel. If you are buying it from a fuel dealer, it is more expensive than diesel. When volume increases, biodiesel prices will drop. What we need is a better more economical source of vegetable than soybeans and a biodiesel refinery producing millions of gallons per day.

  2. No it is not mainly because of the difference in the completeness of infrastructure and markets currently in place of these two types of fuels. Technologies to generate biodiesel are also fairly new comparing to the ones of regular oil. The cost of biodiesel will begin to drop only when markets are much more developed for it and competition between manufacturers is abundant.

  3. in the supermarkets here in my place cooking oil like corn oil,  sun flower oil and other vegetable oil except olive oil is much cheaper than diesel. if i ever know how to transform cooking oil to biodiesel it can be cheaper.

  4. I think one can very safely assume that it is not, or everyone would be using it.  I am talking here about properly refined biodiesel, which does not damage your engine.

  5. Yes, a guy in my town makes it in his house from cooking oil and gets the old cooking oil free from fast food places. He can make it for 51 cent a gallon. He powers his two cars and the equipment to make cost six hundred dollars.

  6. No.  Biodiesel has to be subsidized in order for it to compete on the open market.

For every gallon of Biodiesel sold, there is approximately $1 federal taxes being given to the seller.

  7. No, not at this point. However, we should keep trying to improve on it as our current situation yields higher and higher oil prices.
