  1. yes!  I went through a depression and anxiety phase when I was 20 ,a nd my doctor told me it is hereditary. My sister has serious depression and my mom has been through periods of depressions.

  2. I am in no way an expert, but i have suffered in the past from clinical depression, so has my mother and my sister. we were told that there can be a hereditary element to it, but if you have a family member with clinical depression, you are not therefore doomed to also be affected by the condition.

anyone can get this, regardless of any hereditary element however.

  3. I believe it is because whenever I go to a new psychopharmocologist he always asks if anyone else in the family has depression or a mental problem.   Different members of my family have different mental problems.  They have not all been diagnosed but it is pretty obvious that something is not quite right about them.

  4. most probably..

  5. It can be. There is so little known about any actual medical causes for depression that pretty much anything is possible.

  6. I believe it is.  My dad suffers from depression and so does my mom at times.  I have suffered from depression since I can remember.  My dad tells me that his dad has depression and his dad had depression.

  7. The tendency to develop depression may be inherited; there is some evidence that this disorder may run in families. A 2004 press release from the National Institute of Mental Health declares "major depression is thought to be 40-70 percent heritable, but likely involves an interaction of several genes with environmental events."

  8. If it is I'm sorry for my kids

    I am so depressed sometimes

  9. yes!

    My grandmother committed suicide.

My mother has had bouts of serious depression with hospitalization.

My brother and I both have minor forms of depression that we take good care to manage with doctors and medication.

And I decided adoption is the way to go :)
