Do you believe education is important? Do you think that having a good formal education (in the sense of going all the way through school and obtaining an advanced degree) will improve the quality of one's life? Do you think a society is better off, the more educated its people are?

  1. To me education is only relavent depending on what you do with the knowlege that you gain. There are many types of education, such as, vocational, basic reading and writing, life, ect. It has been demonstrated that if you are educated you tend to make better decisions in life, but it is no guarantee for success. Ther are alot of people with college degrees doing jobs that they could have gotten without a degree.

Education for Black people is our only hope, yet so many Black parents don't prioritize education in themselves or their children and the lowly status of Black people in this society is maintained. 90% of young Black men in prison are high school drop outs and there has never been a case of a car load of Black college graduates doing drive by shootings. The big money in sports, entertainment and drugs have caused millions of Black children to throw their books away for the fast money. I just don't see any change in our attitude or behavior concerning the importance of education.

  2. Yes, yes, and yes.  It is only by knowledge that we aren't all trying to live off the land with oxen-pulled plows.

  3. Yes, yes and yes.

Look closely at the current election; given the complexity of the issues facing the country (financial, international, environmental, social) don't you think its incredibly scary that people with NO education are voting?

The best protection for democracy is an educated electorate.
