  1. England is a nation.

After the death of Elizabeth the First,

the son of Mary Stuart , James Stuart, King of Scotland, became King of England, joining under his rule England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland,

The adopted name was Great Britain or the United Kingdom

In the late XX century , especially under Blair administration, Scotland and Wales

were giving almost what most people agree free rein to slowly but sure separation.

England identity has reemerged in the UNited Kingdom as a separate identity as the British had realized that elimination of the UNited Kingdom seems inevitable in the mid or short run

  2. It's a country within the United Kingdom.

  3. in diplomatic terms, "state" means country.

A "pariah state" is a renegade country.

A "failed state" is a failure of a country.

A "State Official" is a high ranking official from a given nation.

  4. New England is comprised of 6 states:

    Massachusetts

    New Hampshire

    Vermont

    Rhode Island

    Connecticut

    Maine

  5. New England is a small collection of states in the northeast section of the United States, but there is no "England" state.

  6. Well, techinically it's a consituent country in the United Kingdom, meaning it's part of a group of countries (Wales, Scottland, and Northern Ireland being the other three) that make up a larger country (The United Kingdom).

  7. No, England is not a state. It is a country.

  8. Country

  9. they are like states to me. the are the states of the uk just like new york and texas are states of the usa. the efficiency of scale is an attractive concept that works in some ways but not others. but their are always unintended consequences as witnessed in the usa with the civil war and then in the ussr with the fall of the berlin wall.

  10. no it is a country

  11. no. if anything that d**n scotland is a state of England. We own them. And their oil

  12. The Kingdom of England was a state (927-1707) located in western Europe dating from the ninth or tenth century to the early eighteenth century when it was legally succeeded by the Kingdom of Great Britain. A state is a political association with effective sovereignty over a geographic area. So, in short, yes England was it's own state but now it belongs to a larger kingdom known as Great Britain.

  13. yes, "W" annexed it so's he will have a safe haven in exile. He and Tony Blair are in  luv...

  14. England is a country. However, in the international community, countries are often called "states." It has nothing to do with the United States. The United States would be considered a state (country) as well.

  15. England is a country

  16. No, but it is part of Great Britain, which also contains Wales, Scotland, etc... I don't know what they call their "states".

  17. England is a nation state, but it is under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom, which is an independent state (I hope that makes sense.)

  18. England is a country.

  19. Technically NO.  England is a nation with many states.  A state is a governing body that presides over an politically affected area or population.  The United Kingdom and the US has many different sovereign governments (states) that are 'united'.  Long ago, England used to be a nation state when the Tudors were in power.  But after the island was broken up into different states, or kingdoms, it became the United Kingdom - with the addition of other states that are under UK rule that are not present on the England soil.

A state can be a single bodied country with no sovereign territories making up the country as a whole.  Israel and Monaco are perfect examples.  If the United States did away with all the states and made it into one unified country without its individual states, then it would too be a one single state.

  20. It is a sovereign state in the international community, but it's not part of the United States.

  21. No.  It is part of Great Britain.  It is a country in the United Kingdom.

  22. England is not a united state of america

    OBAMA '08

  23. It Is A Country,...!!

  24. ummm...r u serious?
