Question:

Is feminism really about equality?

I used to keep an open mind about feminism but the views I hear seem to be very one-sided. Instead of being about equal opportunities for women, it seems like it has become a fight for supremacy. Leading to far left-wing oppression. Most people realise that we work best with different roles, for example, in work, childcare etc..so why do they try to mould us into the same. I even know from first hand experience a feminist mother forcing her son to act like a girl, by denying him certain toys and giving him a doll instead and believing that the difference in gender by the way people act is created and even day care workers are sexist in favour of boys. The arguements that feminists have about men, are simply sexist, misleading and even offensive to me.

  1. Look at the tone of the feminist laws, that is where feminism can be found. The mainstream feminists think its all about bunny rabbits and friendship bracelets, but its not, you are right.

  2. Feminism is not about making men and women the same. It's about acknowledging that there is variation among each s*x and that everyone should be allowed to fill whichever role works best for them as individuals.

  3. I don't consider all men and women sexist because some of them act like idiots and push their children to act like manly men and frilly women, regardless of what the children are interested in. Some are sexist, some are misguided. Just because one woman mistreats her son doesn't make her a feminist nor does it make all feminists strident nutcases who can't accept gender differences. In a perfect world, those who work with children would treat boys and girls equally and fairly, but it's not a perfect world, that's why we question people's assumptions about gender. But questions don't result in changed behavior-some refuse to listen, others go overboard. Anyone who thinks they can mold another is truly misguided-it just doesn't work very well.

You're basing your whole idea of feminists and feminism on one woman? How sexist is that? If I based my idea of our society on my family, I'd consider all men sexist, homophobic violent abusers and all women as sexist homophobic manipulative passive-aggressive people. You can't base everyone else in the world based on just your personal experiences-some of us don't have the best experiences-but it doesn't mean the whole world is like what you experience yourself. You have to see more than just your family and even your personal life-it takes perspective to see that not all feminists are alike, anymore than liberals or conservatives or christians or agnostics all think and act alike.

  4. Feminism is beginning to go down the slippery slope of reverse-discrimination. What began as an equal rights movement is beginning to turn into a special privileges movement. Affirmative Action is outdated, as are scholarships and grants specified for women. We cannot achieve equality if we're being given special privileges that are not available to men.

  5. Feminism used to be about equality. Female supremists are ******* it up and really causing a headache for true feminists.

Let's call it what it should really be called: Humanism.

  6. Your user name tells me you aren't going to change your mind, no matter what I say.

  7. That mother you mentioned is an idiot. Kids should not be forced to play with, or not play with, certain kinds of toys based on gender. It will just cause resentment.  Nor should they be forced into roles because of gender. Feminism should be about equal opportunity. I wish people had the common sense not to label every asinine behavior as feminism. That mother is a fool, not a feminist.

  8. Feministsarescum, it isn't like you are going to benefit from my answer since you are already extremely biased. However I just wanted to point out that denying a boy a GI Joe in favor of a doll wouldn't scar him for life if we lived in a society that embraced gender equity. Seriously, the boy probably wouldn't play with the doll if he didn't want to and he would simply go without a soldier or a gun like any other poor kid.

I'd also like to point out that "women belong in childcare" is BS which is meant to confine women to lower paying jobs. So, don't give your son a doll...he might grow up to work in childcare where he'll get paid about 25% of what he could have made in a "male job."

Yeah, and no real feminists are men haters. The people who say that about themselves don't understand feminism. But I'm sure you'll continue to look for the few who are "men haters", and ignore the many who aren't because that reaffirms your beliefs.
