Absolutely and it is one of the few sports where you can relax and enjoy yourself, or break out your competitive side and fish in the tournaments. I like fishing with my family and friends and I have made a lot of new friends through fishing.

I think it depends because some fishing aren't that heavy but some do requires really pain in the as. effort but that's what hunting is all about,a fair game.Rock hobbing is the most dangerous way of fishing because it not just fishing but rock climbing at the same time with heavy gears.I fish alone when doing this way of fishing and its very dangerous plus hard labour bcos I take about 20kgs of gear with me to such remote area,its like if u fall u die.I fell before but thank god I didn't just injured.I still fish alone,anyway if I'm gonna die just cant do anything about it,right.enjoy the most of it.

   Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

  "Sport" comes from the old French desport meaning "leisure"

   Considering this definition I'm sure that every one will agree that fishing is a sport when you do it in the sense of being competetive. But as one of the other answers above stated. It can be a hobby too.

It is considered an outdoor sport.

I don't think of it as a sport, as in EXERCISE, even though I am a kayaker.  For me, I consider it recreation and relaxation.

YES!!! Fun hobby and can be dangerous, and very peaceful when you go out for a day.

Yes, especially if you use lures and/or ultra-light tackle to give the fish a fighting chance and make it more challenging. But even for the average kid who just sticks a worm on a hook and waits for a bite, it's still a game of physical and mental skill, and therefore a sport.
