Is football bad for your relationship?

My husband's football addiction takes a toll on our marriage every fall. He watches at least 5 days worth of football - thanks to cable and sports fans making sure there's plenty of games on. He's spent the summer watching rerun games on NFL network. How do other wives cope????

Yeah, maybe he should only watch once a week. And read football results online instead of spending so much time watching. Just a suggestion.

you need to get into as much  as you can, make it a family thing, and know that it is best, you may like it, i know i did i was just where you were and i just had fun with it, throw watch parties, make it fun!

Watching year-round is a bit obsessive; maybe your husband is trying to escape into the sport and avoid doing yard work!

I watch the games with my husband during the fall.  We put on our Charger jerseys, prepare snacks together and have a great time.  (I was raised around football and have a fairly good grasp of the game's nuances--that helps!)  

We root for the same teams (mostly!), and he shares with me the back stories of a lot of the players.  That makes the games even more interesting to me--because there are (believe it or not) a few really good role models in the sport, and it's great to see those particular players and coaches succeed.

My husband has his share of sports-fanatic friends, but he'd rather us watch the games together alone and in the comfort of our own home over running off to someone else's house to watch.  I thinks that's pretty cool, and I don't take it for granted.

Be glad its just one sport.  My husband watches it all. College girls softball is the newest one.  Racing, boxing, football,  I am a sports widow.  Do the best you can honey, just try and get in a movie or two. Tell him how you feel.  Insist on one or two days a week you watch something together.  I wish you well, I know  your frustration. Email me if you want a chat partner.
