Is it... Normal?

Question

I have a cousin that is nine years old.

Is it normal that she can't read or spell common words(throw, grandma, etc)

And she can't write in cursive.

( she is not mentally challenged)

Yes it is normal.  The school system is not set up to actually teach children what they need to learn.  Do not worry.  Ask her teacher what she is actually learning.  Good luck!

She might be dyslexic.  Talk to your parents if you are worried about her; they can talk to your cousin's parents and make sure she is getting tested or getting some special attention.  

Do not tease your cousin about this.  Please just try to be understanding.  There might not be anything wrong with her at all.  Some people just learn differently than others.
