  1. there isn't a shortage of rice or flour - a while back people were panic buying and so the shelves were a bit bare but everything is back to normal now -honestly i'd ask your Aunt if its really neccessary because mailing it is a waste of money and travelling with them oh god that's just pressure .....

  2. sendin a barrel??

Friggs, by the time you pack a barrel & pay for shipping, etc. it may b betta to jus exchange u $ & go store to store to stock up on ting

  3. Hey there's no shortage in trinidad, people will always get worried unnecessarily. U just need to know how to stock up properly when u can and be prepared for anything now-a-days. Don't worry about going through all that trouble...do the better thing and keep ur money for when u reach back to be able to buy...on the whole...everything raising, from food to toilet paper...lol.

  4. ok, customs will charge you if they find any rice or flour in your bags. Yes,  they kinda expensive here, but after you pay customs, the difference in price will be minimal.  Of course if they dont find it is a totally different story.

  5. Dat is de reason why ah doh tell nobody wen  ah coming.. de dos always want some ting.ah stop de toating ah long time now....bd

  6. Yuh sending a barrel before yuh go? Don't carry them thing in yuh grip.I think yuh not allowed anything raw anyway. If yuh not sending a barrel just take a us 20 spot and exchange it and buy it when yuh get there for her, plus rice will weight yuh down and they chargin when yuh over de weight limit.

@Mandy T, we can't find Trini cheese in de states and some times it cheaper to by the roti skins(buss up shot) while yuh there and just bring it when yuh coming. I know in Jersey and in Brooklyn it's like $2.50 and up for just one Roti skin so be easy on us nah.

The prices of these basic food items are going up me everywhere. It seems to me however that once you convert your money it actually ends up being cheaper to buy in Trinidad.

  7. Oh gawd oh - the infamous requests of local family members!  Chic even though flour and rice has risen over here - let dem buy it right here! I am sure the would appreciate getting items that are hard to source locally - When you add up the cost to send it, is it worth it!

It have people who does ask for all kinda stuff from "foreign" I have an Aunt who takes their request and then come to Trini - go in Hilo or Pricemart and buy the item for the person!!!

  8. yuh aunt can't be serious?

No there is no shortage... the price just keeps raising...

as it is everywhere else but apparently she didn't notice.

I say don't bring it... next ting customs stop ya **** and ask ya a wohle bunch of questions why it is you have so much flour and rice...

lawd trinis travel with some strange food items...

my mom had to carry up cheese and roti skins for my cousins in NY lol

  9. I don't like carrying things, especially long distance. So if they have it, but it's a little more expensive, I would still get it there instead of lugging it around.

    Happy Traveling :)
