Is it ok to feed hamsters?

Question

my sister fed my hammie a weenie watermelon gave him a bath took him out of hi cage nearly killing the poor thing

he is a dwarf hamster male 3 months

it was OK to give him watermelon but giving a hamster a bath was not good sometimes they can loose a lot of hair if u give them a bath. Hamsters clean themselves so u don't really need to clean them in anyway. Also hamsters can not swim.

I know that Guinea pigs shouldn't have watermelon.  I'd tell your sister to stay away from your hamster.  They can get very scared and stressed easily and could die.  Explain to your sister why she shouldn't do those things to him and how she can gently play with him.

watermelon is fine in small amount.  But make sure you hamster is completely dry so it doesn't catch a cold.

Don't give them baths. Make sure to wipe him down with a moist/damp cloth. Also watermelon is fine for them.

Water melon is fine in small amounts (too much could cause diarrheoa).  Baths are best avoided.  There is small animal shampoo on the market.  If anything but small animal shampoo or baby shampoo was used then it may irritate the skin a bit and if the hamster injested any soap it could get sick.  Don't worry though, I'm sure it will be fine, just make sure he is dry.

now small pieces of washed, seedless watermelon, is ok.

The bath is really dangerous because the little guy could have drowned, or get wet tail. Now keep your hamster away from your sister, until you teach her what to do. Explain how to give a hamster a bath by getting a damp wash cloth, and washing him gently. As long as he was totally dry, and dosent have dierea then he should be fine. Good luck.

Hamsters are just like ginipigs I used to have a ginipig they like lettus carrots so if you have carrots that are getting bad then give it to him and no you do not give them baths

The watermelon is OK if you washed it and stuff, but they have a very sensitive immune system so be careful about that. She shouldn't of gave it a bath though because their like cats they clean themselves if your hamster is dirty she should of cleaned the cage not gave it a bath it takes the natural oil out of the hamsters skin and can make it dry out. I would suggest going to a pet store cause they should make stuff to prevent your hamsters skin from getting infected. You could just hope it is fine this time and not do it again. That should do the trick. Just make sure never to give it a bath again.
