  1. No. That is not true.

BEATING any child, any age, would be child abuse. CORPORAL PUNISHMENT (spanking) is not the same thing at all. Some schools actually have paddling as a discipline/ punishment.

    Your friend is not correct.

  2. There are a lot of variables that go into this. You should just try to avoid hitting kids at all, just to be on the safe side. :)

If you're really curious, check your state law website.

  3. if anything it would be before..

  4. well not quite.....

Physical punishment has been outlawed in many countries, in the EU the lead was taken by Sweden in 1979, in the UK for example however there exists a defense of reasonable chastisement for a parent.

This allows for a parent of a child to use mild smacking as a form of chastisement or punishment, however, any punishment that leaves a mark, bruise, cut, or other physical trace is in fact illegal.

I would direct you to the read, section 58, Children Act 2004, which should clarify the law in the UK (Section 51, Criminal Justice Act (Scotland) 2003.

The United Nation Committee on the Rights of the Child state that physical or mental violence is in breach of articles 19 and 37 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

(Article 19 states that children must be protected from all forms of physical or mental punishment, and

Article 37 prohibits cruel and degrading treatment and punishment)

So technically, it is still legal to mildly smack your child after the age of 10 in the UK thanks to the defense of reasonable chastisement, however should you assault any individual, regardless of age, then you have broken the law.

  5. ...naw...im over 40, and im always beating on kids

  6. Depends on how they hit them.  If they spank them, because they did something wrong, then it's okay.  But child abuse, on the other hand, is illegal.

  7. a minor is a child in uk under the age of 16 and in usa (most states) 18, and yes if the child is not in your care legally and/or if the amount of violence used is unreasonable or done with a weapon (ie belt, cane, slipper).
