is it true that they will lower the minimum wage in california? it is currently $8 an hour, but i heard they want to bring the minimum wage down to $6.55 an hour. Can they do that? And if they do that, they have to bring the cost of everything down, right?

  1. it happened in colorado. it went from 8 to 6.55 (thereabouts). they do that because the poverty level increases. They won't have to bring the cost down but it will go down because the consumer will buy less and the stores and stuff will be forced to lower their prices if they want to make a profit

  2. Gov. S. wants to cut the saleries of some government workers to the level of the minimum wage because the state has run out of money.

Any state can cut its minimum wage -- it would take legislation.

State governments cannot "bring the cost of everyting down."  They can set the price of what they sell.  They cannot set the price of what you sell.  (Actually, the buyer sets the price by either buying or not buying.)   Gov S. want to cut the price of the labor that the State buys.  The workers will need to determine if they will work for minimum wage.  Citizens cannot be forced to work.
