  1. No airports are fun! Heathrow is a major European (international for that matter) hub, so expect it to be VERY crowded. Leave yourself plenty of time if you are going to have to make a connections. The food, shops, etc are average. I don't think its as bad as everyone is saying it is. I've been through my share of airports, and i would rather be stuck at heathrow than in many U.S. airports.  And I've never had a problem with luggage there (though 12 airports across U.S. has lost my luggage at least once).

  2. It is horrible.

Junk food, lots of overcrowding, expensive merchandise if that's your idea of fun.

You may see your baggage again, if not you can buy it back at auction six months later.

  3. If you have a fetish for airports you might like it. Customs can be quite quick - or quite slow if you arrive with a few other 747's. Baggage can be quick, or at the new terminal you might never get it. Ever. It's an airport! It'll sell you over-priced plastic food and weak coffee, rip you off for a beer, stand on your foot and generally give you a great time!

  4. Customs and baggage can take a while depending on how many flights leave/arrive at a similar time.

I wouldn't describe it as fun to spend 2/3 hours there, (but then I am not a big fan of spending that much time in any airport!) but you can find enough things to do to fill in your time.  There are lots of good food places (my favourite is Giraffe, - but I forget which terminal it is in) and enough shops to browse in.

Or you can just sit and people watch - London Heathrow often gets some interesting people through.

  5. i guess some of the food is good but its so ******* crowded and it takes forever.. i'd leave myself a lot of extra time if i were you. and of course it's not fun unless you have money to waste on things you could buy cheaper other places.

  6. As one of the busiest international airports in the world, it has a fare share of restaurants and shops.

As one of the oldest and physically smallest international airports, it's a rabbit warren of hallways. Customs and baggage can be horrific. We are talking major cattle call. Leave very early or you might not make it through customs.

Also don't be fooled by one of those free buses that go to the nearby hotel district. The buses are incredibly slow. You are better off taking the express to Paddington to kill some time. There is nothing within walking distance of the airport. There are no sidewalks, just dangerous twisty roads with little or not shoulder.

Find a nice pub and drink.
