Question:

Is my brother lacking Etiquette?

Wednesday evening my brother and his son dropped by for a visit. I took the opportunity to invite him, his wife and his son over for dinner on the weekend. His wife was not with him at that moment, she was at work so not knowing her schedule I told to my brother to pick Saturday or Sunday , what ever suited them best.

It's Friday night and I have not heard from him yet.

At this point should I just say I didn't hear from them so I made other plans?

  1. your brother is being rude and lacking manners.  i would assume he's not showing up, but i would also call him and let him know how i felt about his insensitivity.

  2. Why is it that people have such a hard time responding to invitations? Even if it's an informal, verbal, "hey let's get together for dinner" plans still need to be confirmed. I would suggest, as much as I hate to, that you call him to see what's going on. Be sure to mention that you were about to make other plans, because you hadn't heard from him. If you get a machine though, you may want to tell him that you're assuming you're not having dinner this weekend, and ask him to call you back sometime later in the next week to see when might be a good time. It's polite, but gets the point across.

    Best Regards,

    Holly

  3. Hey! You and I must have the same brother! lol Yes, I find it extremely rude and inconsiderate that you haven't heard from them yet. I don't care how busy they are, they can take a moment and let you know whether or not they're coming. I would tell them exactly that: you didn't hear from them so you made other plans.

  4. He probably forgot. Men are that way sometimes, so if he calls at the last minute just tell him to pick up dinner on his way since he didn't bother to call you back.

  5. He sure does...

  6. All brothers are lacking in etiquette.

    It's just in our nature.
