Question:

Is my dog depressed?

Our family dog ( a 1-year-old beagle/lab mix) has stopped drinking and is hardly eating. He doesn't want to play and all he does is lay around all day. I think it's because my husband has been in jail for 2 weeks. We have at least another week before he might be able to come home, but I'm worried about him (the pup). What can I do to help him through this?

  1. Give him lots of attention and don't get stressed out around him.  Stay completly calm and just try to get him to do stuff.  Try putting his leash on and walking him inside the house.  When he walks, praise him like he just performed a miracle or something.

  2. I think he is depressed.... try feeding him chicken... just feed him chicken until he gets his appitite back.. then you can go back to the dog food

  3. He might be depressed... but when a dog isn't eating or drinking, it's a serious problem and needs to be evaluated by a professional.... not strangers online.

  4. Offer him something you know for a fact he really loves to eat. Entice him to drink by giving him chicken broth.
