i dont think so! yet i do think its kinda weird how all the atletes have to wear such reaviling out fits

The complaint is that the female athletes are being forced to wear tiny bikinis and the male athletes aren't.  If your girlfriend is happy doing so, that's fine.  The problem arises if she wants to wear shorts and a tank top but isn't allowed to play if she doesn't wear something that she's uncomfortable with.

I'm a feminist and I don't think that the athletes are being degraded. First off, they're playing women's beach volleyball. That's a decision that they've made. It's not like somebody grabbed them and said "Hey! You're going to go jump around in a bikini on national television tomorrow, ok?"

Also, I doubt that the IOC has official regulations that stimulate that women can only cover so much skin. If an athlete wanted to wear boy shorts and a tank top, I'm sure she would be allowed to.

Personally, I don't object. Those girls are ripped.

I'm not too worried about the bikini and the volleyball.  But she might be degrading herself by being the partner of someone who strongly opposes feminism.

NPR had a story last night about this and interviewed a former Olympic Volleyball player and bronze medalist. She said that wearing a bikini is a choice and that it is definitely the most efficient article of clothing. They can wear a one-piece, but it is more constricting, sand gets stuck in it, and it just generally doesn't work as well. The lady was quit to point out that the women marathon runners and track and field participants wear uniforms that are not a lot bigger than bikinis.

It's a fact that these women beach ball players are a real treat on the eyes. They are genetically gifted, elite athletes, which equals a killer body. I'm sure females and g*y men would say the same thing about the male athletes. You can appreciate somebody's physical qualities and still admire their dedication, competive spirit and high level of skill.

P.S.--Anybody who wants proof that GW Bush is really a closet-case sissy, consider that he passed on a chance to give that one female volleyball player a good luck slap on her butt.

Why is she degrading herself is she plays volleyball in her bikini on the beach? Isn't that what everyone wears on the beach? I don't understand your mentality at all.

Well...considering how the beach is a very appropriate place to wear a bikini, and there is nothing wrong with volleyball I'd say no, she is not degrading herself.
