Question:

Is my ignition lock cylinder bad?

I have a 1993 Buick Century, and the ignition lock cylinder is stuck in the running position. I had to remove the ECM fuse in order to shut the car off. You can still restart the car though. The lock just wont pull back. Any ideas what could be wrong, or does it sound like a bad lock cylinder?

  1. 2 things, the tumbler could be bad, this is a common gm problem with the regals and centuries, the chip on the key gets dirty, and cant pass the electronic bypass,on the cylinder,so it cant energize it,and becomes unrecognizble..so it gets stuck in the accesory position(back).you ll have to get a new lock cylinder,u can keep your same key, just get a new cylinder...

  2. its probably the cylinder and keys worn out in it ,that was common with gm products id replace it,their not that exensive or hard to repalce, good luck.

  3. sounds like the ignition switch, take it to a shop, figure under 200 parts and labor

  4. sounds like you need a new cylinder

    pick one up there cheap
