Is my tree salvageable

Question

storm last night knocked down a huge branch which ripped about 1/3 of the stump down to the ground. it's a nice old oak tree just wondering if there is a way to save it.

your best bet is a good arborist.... they can tell you true once they see the problem.... I'd not venture a guess without seeing it in person....

The tree might be fine in the short term but it will most likely get some sort of disease now that so much of the tree has been exposed.  It's worth having a professional look at it, they can give you better advice after they see the tree.
